True real-time effects with dual-stream technology
Casablanca Avio, Prestige, Kron and Solitaire offer effects in
real-time and in best picture quality.
Until now, effects, titles and audio mixing had to be rendered. Casablanca Avio,
Prestige, Kron and Solitaire triumph with a sensational new feature: Many 2D
effects (soft fades, wipes, circle-wipes etc.) work in real-time, meaning that
adding them to the storyboard is all that's needed - you can play them right
away!
"Dual stream" technology makes it possible. Two video signals are played
simultaneously while "swapping" between a video signal with and without the
effect. Each of the digital video signals is displayed with 50 fields a second
(60 with NTSC) and in full resolution. Smooth effects in a high resolution pose
no problems for Casablanca Avio, Prestige, Kron and Solitaire.
Systems using the "single stream" technology on the other hand either use no
real-time effects at all or have to utilize a trick to create a real-time
impression: The 50 frames (fields) needed for the PAL video standard are split
up between two scenes. Scene A receives the even and scene B the odd fields. The
result is an effect, which does away with rendering, but uses half of the
refresh-rate and resolution. A "blocky" appearance and a slightly jerky movement
are the visible disadvantages of this system. In most cases, to achieve the best
picture quality, a "single stream" system has to render anyhow - real-time is
simply not possible.
We believe that our users want the best picture quality. This is why we have
chosen to use the "dual stream" technology in Casablanca Avio, Prestige, Kron
and Solitaire. We vouch for smooth video sequences in the best picture quality -
even with our real-time effects. We do not want our users to make do with
reduced quality of effects without making it clear in our advertising
beforehand.
Complex, seldom used, effects (which can not be realized in best picture quality
in real-time) have to be rendered. In return, the effects are in top-notch
quality. And: the render-process is a lot faster - thanks to the considerably
more powerful processor.
